Homemade Ginger Chicken Soup Recipe
A popular, fat burning recipe from The Diet Solution Program (DSP)
By Isabel De Los Rios
This is by far one of my favorite things to make any time of year, but it’s especially nice during the colder months.
So easy you can do it with your eyes closed, but don’t!
Ingredients:
* 4 chicken breasts (or 4 chicken legs)
* 1/2 large onion – diced
* 4 carrots – sliced
* 4 celery stalks- sliced
* 4 garlic cloves – peeled and ends cut off
* 1/2″ fresh ginger – grated. You may leave skin on, but be sure to wash well under cold water.
* 2 sweet potatoes – 1 1/2″ diced
* 1 bay leaf
* 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper – dry, ground
* Freshly cracked black pepper – to taste
* Sea salt – to taste
* 1 tbsp olive oil or organic butter
* 3/4 cup of water – filtered, if possible
* 2-3 cups grass fed organic chicken broth
Directions:
1. Finely chop onion and garlic.
2. Add oil or butter to bottom of stockpot and get oil ready to sauté the onion until the onion is translucent.
3. While onion is cooking, rinse chicken breasts or legs under cold water and pat dry.
4. Slice carrots and celery, grate ginger, and cube sweet potatoes.
5. When onion is ready, add garlic and sauté for a short time. Then add chicken and chicken broth along with all the prepared ingredients to the stockpot with the bay leaf, some black pepper, sea salt, and cayenne pepper.
6. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for at least 20 minutes.
7. Test chicken to be sure it’s cooked through and test sweet potatoes to be sure they are fork tender.
8. Remove chicken breasts or legs and cut into cubes. Then, you may add the chicken back into the soup or reserve it to the side so that you can add back however much you would like at a time.
9. Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.
This soup has been a staple item in my eating plan because it’s so easy to prepare and it can serve as a couple of meals. By the way, if you have digestive issues due to anything including pregnancy, ginger can help with your symptoms. Isabel can personally vouch for ginger’s soothing benefits since she ate this soup frequently during both of her pregnancies.
Personally, I find the soup to be delicious, satisfying, and wonderful for the digestive system pregnant or not. (I’m not.)
If ginger is not a staple item in your meal plan each day, I would definitely try this recipe. Then you can benefit from ginger’s wonderful healthy properties and burn off some body fat at the same time.
Enjoy!

If you want to know more about ginger, here’s a glimpse of her expert nutrition advice:
“Not only is ginger delicious, it is also so great at quickly conquering a myriad of nagging ailments like digestive difficulties, heartburn, and even morning sickness.
The history of ginger goes way back. It is a plant that is used as a natural spice and has been used by Chinese herbalists for more than 2,500 years both in flavoring foods and as part of natural, healing medicines.
One of ginger’s biggest “claims to fame” is its ability to quickly calm the digestive system to relieve distress and discomfort from gas pains and cramping. It also has been used to relieve nausea from motion sickness, morning sickness, or the occasional “I just ate the wrong thing and it’s killing my stomach!”
Ginger has also been used in the treatment and prevention of inflammatory conditions like painful arthritis and it’s a wonderful cold and flu fighter.”
