I’ve been spending a lot of time discussing diabetes because we all know someone with type 2 diabetes. And of course because of the recent buzz regarding TV’s favorite southern chef Paula Deen’s diabetes admission there is still a lot of ongoing interest.

What is so frustrating to us fitness folks is that she clearly has no idea that her food choices and her unhealthy recipes have contributed to her type 2 diabetes.

You can definitely eat your way to diabetes according to all the research I’ve read. A high-carb (junk food) diet is the primary cause of Type 2 diabetes — and is the main reason diabetes has become a global epidemic, according to the World Health Organization.

Check this out. Deen’s idea of good eating is:

The Krispy Kreme Burger (a hamburger on a donut),

and her Ultimate Fantasy Deep-Fried Cheesecake!

Diabetes anyone?

So, if she did take responsibility for causing her diabetes and that her unhealthy recipes and diet choices lead to her diagnosis, she’d have to change her act a bit. LOL That ain’t gunna happen.

All right. So what is the take home lesson?

6. Most commercial salad dressings and dips.

Why?

First, when you read the label on most of these products they read like a science experiment rather than something you want to feed to your family. Secondly, they are packed with unhealthy oils that create dangerous, chronic inflammation in your body. Inflammation = more fat and more disease.

7. Granola bars and most energy bars. Are you kidding me? These suckers taste so good, right? Well, there’s a reason for that.

==>> The energy bar lie.

Don’t get me started on energy bars marketed as “health” bars. We as consumers have to really read our labels if we are going to have packaged foods and these bars have a lot of marketing money behind them and they tend to use other terms that we may not be familiar with like “hydrogenated oils” which is

8. Processed snacks, including chips and crackers. All of these kinds of snacks (whether (baked or not) are filled with rancid oils and create serious inflammation in the body. Inflammation is linked to obesity and most degenerative diseases.

9. Microwave popcorn with butter “flavoring”. This stuff is all fake and we all know it. Food manufacturers make this stuff taste good. But these products will create future health issues for us. It’s not worth the convenience or the jazzy taste.

10. Veggie burgers and other fake soy-based “foods”. Soy is one of the most genetically modified food in our food supply. Research has only just begun to uncover the serious long-term damages GMO’s are to our health. Secondly, soy is highly processed and far from the healthy versions that traditional Asian cultures consume. Soy is not a good food for weight loss or for type 2 diabetes prevention.
